Investment Associate

You are currently working as an Investment Associate at LIQID. What does your role involve, and what excites you most about working in investments?
As an Investment team, our goal is to improve and evolve the range of financial products and services that LIQID offers. Personally, I am primarily focused on all matters relating to our NXT product range. This involves continuously cultivating the underlying portfolios, developing client-oriented reporting, and working closely with all LIQID departments to deliver an enjoyable digital experience. While this may sound straightforward, day-to-day tasks can vary widely, which makes work itself exciting and offers the opportunity to develop a variety of different skills. As markets and product landscapes evolve quickly, we as a team face new challenges every day.


What skills and mindset do you think are essential to succeed as an Investment Associate in a digital asset manager like LIQID?

LIQID is a company that at times develops very rapidly. This means as an employee it is crucial to be flexible and able to adapt to changing challenges and obstacles. Therefore, the most important skill I would say is having a hands-on mentality and not shying away from doing things you have never done before. It is also important to be able to think analytically, pay attention to detail, and collaborate with people with a broad range of different fields of expertise.


How does LIQID’s digital approach change the way investment solutions are built and delivered to clients compared to more traditional asset managers?

At LIQID, our goal is to provide investment solutions for an increasingly sophisticated group of high-net-worth investors. The challenge lies in consistently providing investment solutions that are state of the art, unique, and tailored to our clients' needs. I am very happy to have played a part in developing LIQID Private Equity NXT, one of Europe’s first institutional-grade private equity solutions for retail clients. This product has been tailor-made for retail investors who want to diversify their portfolio with an asset class that has been part of institutional portfolios for decades. What distinguishes LIQID from other market players is our approach of building from scratch to drive innovation.


Which market developments or investment themes are you currently following most closely?
Having originally started my career in LIQID's private markets team, I am still very interested in the development of the private markets sector in Europe. In particular, I am interested in the rapidly evolving European ELTIF market. Opening up the asset classes of the private markets to retail investors was unthinkable a decade ago. Now, a large number of new ELTIFs are brought to market each year. Understanding the differences between the respective offerings and the rationale behind them will allow us to improve our own offering. And, even more important, educating investors about the peculiarities of this niche will enable them to make more informed investment decisions.


What motivates you to grow your career at LIQID, and what keeps you here?
I am extremely happy that we have an extraordinary culture of collaboration within the Investment team. We operate with a high level of trust and mutual support, which makes overcoming complex challenges enjoyable, helps us get through intense project phases and simply makes being in the office fun. Beyond my own department, I value the flat hierarchies and informal, direct communication throughout the company. Exchanging ideas openly increases efficiency and creates opportunities for personal growth, as you are constantly learning from experts in fields beyond your own area of expertise.
